For the past four years, we've published and hosted a very wide spectrum of artistic expression
in the literary, dramatic, visual, musical and moving image arts. We
welcomed a variety of expression that is not considered by many
literary journals, such as screenplays and original musical compositions.
But as readers probably noticed, our increasing interest became video. We think a video record of readings and performances, as well as "mini-documentary" visits on video with artists in all disciplines, has been our greatest contribution. And we've decided to focus on this exclusively in order to do a better job at it.
This means we no longer accept submissions of text and images unless they have a video or audio component. We are eager to hear from those who are able to make a video record of artists and the arts in their area. We can accept raw video footage (usually .avi) or edited video files ready to go online. We are eager to build a family of regular contributors. If this interests you, contact me at cdeemer at yahoo dot com and tell me what you have in mind.
About half our staff will continue on as regular contributors of video. We hope some of you will join us.
Here is a prototype of our new look. In 2010, this will become the "start page." We will not have "issues" but frequently update OLR as a website with the latest video files. All the original issues of the journal remain online, our archive.
There are many outlets, online and off, for publishing poetry and short stories. There are fewer for finding video of literary readings, gallery openings and musical performances, and even fewer for "mini-documentaries" of contemporary artists. We hope to fill this gap.
