Two Photographs
A writer and photographer at work in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range in Southern Colorado

Writing and photographing have been entwined for me since I started both as a teenager in New York. Living here in the Sangres has made me appreciate what writing cannot do: communicate the hugeness of the skies, the vastness of storm clouds coming up and over the ridge, the way the light shifts as the sun drops. Simultaneously, I am writing a novel about the massacre at Jonestown, Guyana, in 1978, and this difficult work is so interior that I need the sky and clouds to complement my internal landscape.
