SIX PAINTINGS
I picked up the brush for the first time in the Fall of '03. It seemed
like a very natural thing to do. And it's been a crash course in painting
and painters ever since.
Sometimes I know in advance what I'm going to paint. Sometimes I don't.
Often I start out painting one thing and by following the paint it ends up
being something else. Most of my imagery is steeped in 'Weird Old
America.' Some of it is entirely alien and I'm not really sure where it
comes from. Sometimes I start out with the title. Other times, a song
lyric. Or a color scheme. The only thing that's for certain is that every
time I put the brush to the canvas it's a revelation. And that is, more
than anything, the thing that keeps me going. --DBrooks
