INTERDEPENDENCY
Eight Pictures and Texts
During the closing months of 2006, I decided to buy a digital camera to use on the walks I take through Portland's Forest Park. Before this, I gathered poems and various ideas from the woods; now I wanted to extend my basket to images. Although I've written photography criticism, this was to be my first camera, and I wondered whether I could use it to see differently, differently being the central purpose of any creative activity. Furthermore, how could webpages be designed for these photographs, and inscribed with writing? "Interdependency" grew from these concerns.
When I posted some of the resultant pictures on the "webartery" discussion list, some members responded. My reflections on their critiques became how further pictures were chosen; in addition, the critiques were used as springboards for the texts, each one of which is framed into three terse lines.
Eight pages seemed a good place to stop, so that these pictures become an insight into those yet to be seen, and written of.
